Projects in Progress

Our newest partner, Haiti Projects provides jobs (at fair trade wages), education, and health care to residents of Fond-des-Blancs. The centerpiece is its long-established Artisanat Cooperative, with skilled craftswomen embroidering clothing and household items for sale in select stores and online.

The nonprofit also supports community-building initiatives, and its latest project is the construction of a new library/community center. With high illiteracy rates — 80% of residents don’t finish 5th grade — the library will be able to offer continuing education for children and adults.

  • New Construction: A new, expanded library for the 45,000 residents the older facility now serves. In addition to offering books, computers, internet access, and adult and children's programs as it does now, the new permanent library will have a larger computer lab, an amphitheater, classrooms, and artist-in-resident housing.
