Build Health International

Project Introduction

In partnership with the Autodesk Foundation and the Autodesk Expert Internship Program, BHI began assembling lessons learned documents on how we design and build high quality infrastructure and low-resource settings. This project is the beginning of a large effort to become more efficient in our design and construction and allow us to deliver higher quality, lower cost infrastructure.

Project Description

In partnership with the Autodesk Foundation and the Autodesk Expert Internship Program, BHI began assembling lessons learned documents on how we design and build high quality infrastructure and low-resource settings. This project is the beginning of a large effort to become more efficient in our design and construction and allow us to deliver higher quality, lower cost infrastructure.

There were two deliverables in this project: an exploration on How We Design and a technical analysis of design features in existing BHI facilities.

The How We Design document is a collection of case-studies of past healthcare construction projects. This is intended to summarize, analyze, and outline the impact and execution of design features on both BHI and non-BHI projects with the intention of developing a body of work that documents existing projects and informs future designs.

The Technical Analysis and Testing effort measures the impact of design features at all the Haiti Projects sites, which will aid future design decisions as well as reinforce existing ones. This document includes an analysis of the way design features impact the quality and intensity of light and heating and cooling to draw comparisons between on-site testing results and analytical data models from Insight 360 and Revit. Analytical testing using Autodesk Revit BIM modeling software and the Autodesk Insight 360 plug-in revealed the variables involved in how different features of a buildings design can impact the quality of its interior spaces.
